Carnelian (red-orange) Gemstone

Many of us recognise Carnelian as that gorgeous blood-red to reddish orange stone. Did you know that Carnelian is classified as chalcedony (a compact variety of quartz)?  Pure chalcedony is white, but when trace elements or tiny inclusions of other minerals occur, it can yield a range of colours.  So, when iron oxide works its way through chalcedony……you get carnelian!  Phew…did you follow? 😂
